🍀 The Future

What do you do?

I loathe this question, but it’s the one we all eventually get to when we meet someone new and we’ve exhausted talking about the weather, recent events and future endeavors.

The question is short for “What do you do for work?” but humans are so much more than work, or at least they can be. I like to hear what you do for work, but my work is quite unusual these days, so I have trouble explaining.

I am a complete person with a wide array of interests. I try to spend my time with friends or focusing on my interests.

Fortunately, one of my interests is Technology, which has also been my life’s work. I built websites using Geocities in middle school when the internet was brand new in the 1994, ran a .com in selling vodka advertisements in high school, went to business school in college, built a system to manage keys at the University of Washington, and then helped numerous companies in Seattle organize their data and setup the software needed to run various aspects of their business. Then I went helped modernize an old billboard advertising company by building a platform from scratch with APIs integrating data internally and externally with apps for employees and customers.

That was all before I quit my Tech VP job at age 37 to start my own company while living off of savings.

It’s been quite the journey since then, I have lived almost another lifetime, and I am a different person although I’m still friends with many past coworkers.

I am more myself than ever and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m still working on what I planned to launch back in 2020 and it’s way better than I could have imagined then. It’s amazing what happens when you get time to disconnect and find yourself. It has not been easy, but I am very grateful for the experience 🙏🏻

I tend to say “I work in Tech” but this now feels quite foreign and past to me and engenders a certain type of person in Seattle who is living a certain type of lifestyle while working at a certain type of company, and that’s not really me.

I am working on technology because I having spent my whole life watching it evolve and I am annoyed by how bad it is, but I haven’t worked in tech since 2020. I’ve been working on my self and my ideas.

Yes, AI is impressive, but then why do we still have thousands of unread emails and notifications? Why hasn’t it gotten easier to keep track of everything and get things done? Why don’t we have more time to enjoy life?

That’s what I’m working on. I want everyone to experience what I have, so I’m designing a guide to help those that want to, do just that.

That’s why I spend my time thinking about and working on The Future. I want us all to have a better and brighter tomorrow, a better future for everyone.

Futurist

I’m excited for the future! Hard to believe with how things are going and all we have been through, but I think we have reached a point of collective reckoning. It’s time we all agree that things have to be done differently. I think everyone is going to see this very soon, and I’m excited to have a seat at the table as we figure out the new way forward, each as one of many living on planet Earth.
