I think it’s important to for businesses to think first about what their gift to society is. Businesses are legal entities created by people under governance of our laws and should be designed to provide a net benefit to society.
A CEO should first think about what product their business is delivering, and how best to deliver that product to make it available to as much of society as possible.
Were it not for society and it’s system of networks, roads, and workers, this business owner could not do what they are doing.
The business is allowed by law in order to serve the people, not the owner of the business.
So what is the point of your business? If you work for business, what are you really working on under this purpose? If you work in Finance, or IT it may not seem as clear as you’re working on monthly processes and projects to make systems work better, but you must keep in mind that these are to make the company more efficient at delivering its product to the people, not to make more money for the owners. It’s can be clearer how you fit into that purpose if you work in sales, selling the product, or operations, delivering the product, but remember you are working for the customer, not the owner.
