Introducing Uncle Dom’s Italian Kitchen in Capitol Hill

With the sad departure of longtime hill favorite, Machiavelli two years ago, and the burning down of Vito’s over on Madison, Capitol Hill has been in the midst of an Italian transition.

Vitos is a hole in the ground still and Machiavelli has been replaced with a new and also good, fancier Italian place with the unfortunate name, “The Cheese Room”, part of Korean family of restaurants Sitka Cafe (Pine & 9th downtown) and MEET Korean (Pike & Summit).

Don’s Italian kitchen opened its doors on October 7th, and living right nearby I had to give it a shot on opening night. It did not disappoint and might be my new favorite Italian restaurant.

The restaurant is part of the Vitos lineage with Chef XXX coming from there. The Lineage also extends over to Olive Way at Donna’s, a bar that serves cheap and absolutely delicious pasta. This would be my favorite, but it’s order at the counter and very hard to get a seat. It’s also very loud and dark and I am not as young as I used to be.
