The Magic Word is You

NOTE: Not for publication of sharing at this time! I want to share this methodically, thank YOU!

Abracadabra may be the most famous Magic word, but it’s not the real one.

The real magic word is You.

If you ever find yourself speaking to a group of people, be sure to say Thank You to conclude your speech. This is an unspoken note to the audience that you are done speaking, and the audience will immediately begin to applaud.

If you ever find yourself winning an award, you may find yourself saying Thank You many different times to the general audience and to specific ā€œYouā€s that you want to thank.

What’s the deal with You?

You is a Magic word.

You is Magic.

Sounds funny, but it is.

When I say, ā€œWho are You?ā€ to you, you know that your answer should be about yourself, ā€œMeā€ from your perspective. How can You be Me to You but also Me to Me?

If you walk into a room with two people and you want to know how they are doing, what do you ask?

The is the tricky one. We don’t agree on how to ask the question.

ā€œHow are you guys?ā€ Why are the two of you guys now without any regard for the gender of the people in the room?

ā€œHow are yous?ā€ Since there are two can you just plural it? No, not common.

ā€œHow are Y’all?ā€ I like this one even though I’m not from the south where it’s common because it doesn’t unnecessarily gender everyone in the room. Y’all means ā€œYou Allā€ so the question reads, ā€œHow are You All?ā€

We make this really complicated when it doesn’t need to be because the simple ā€œHow are You?ā€ still works here even though there are two people. It scales up too, when someone gets up on stage and asks the audience, ā€œHow are You?!ā€ everyone cheers because they know it means ā€œMeā€ and everyone else in the room.

So let’s get this straight. You means Me, and You means You, and You means…. Everyone??

That’s right. You means Everyone. Including the Individual, and the collective.

You must be Magic to mean all that.

It gets more interesting.

Quantum.

Ok, you didn’t expect me to bring up Quantum as the next thought.

Some believe a quantum theory that all possible outcomes in the universe exist. There’s a version of you that missed the bus and had to walk today. There’s a version of you that didn’t survive that hospital visit and is no longer part of that version of the universe.

I think it’s an interesting theory, and the movie I declared as my favorite when I was back in college, Sliding Doors, dives into this idea when the main character, played by Gwynyth Paltrow, gets fired from her job and misses the train on her way home. The scene rewindes, and something super tiny changes and she is just barely able to make the train. The movie splits and from then on we see what happens to poor Gwynith when she makes the train and when she doesn’t. We get to see two possible universes play before our eyes in parallel.

What does this have to do with YOU?

I’ll get there, but first let me say, that I don’t believe the quantum theory that all of these possible universes co-exist in some alternate reality. It’s just too complicated with infinite possible differences and no place for all of this to be happening. Our minds are a bit too rooted in the physical world we exist in to really buy that theory I think.

I do believe that there are infinite possible realities thought. From right now this very second forward, you could make an absolutely dramatic change to your life and leave your home, leave your belongings, hop on a plane somewhere and start a completely new life without telling anyone, and you would have comlpetely changed your universe.

That’s extreme, but it works at a more minute level that I have learned to actionable and helpful. My most active example of this that I like to think about is that there is a version of me that gets up and goes for a run every morning, and there is a version of me that doesn’t. I have to make the decision every single day, but by doing so each day, I am marching towards a future version of myself that I can envision as fit and healthy. The lazy don’t run version doesn’t have the same energy and doesn’t get as much done as a result. One version of Alex is way better than the other. And it’s literally my choice every day to decide which version I want to be. With time, I’ll be the version I am taking the steps to become.

This applies to literally everything we do which is why they say to pursue your dreams. If you think about your dreams every day and take actions to point yourself in that direction — taking singing lessons, buying a keyboard, learning to juggle, practicing the high jump — whatever it may be, you can get there if you keep going. So dreams do come true and it’s inevitable if you just do it.

It’s pretty crazy that you have the power to change your universe. You are changing your universe by doing this because as you make these changes, your daily experience changes as well. You literally begin to live a different life and see different things, meet different people, uncover different opportunities, all because you made decisions to take a different action to point yourself in the direction of your dreams.

So this new version of you lives in a different universe than the version of you that didn’t do all that stuff. THis is where I can’t quit fathom that that other version of you is actually out there living the worse version of your life. I don’t quite buy that, but I can see how just like the two world of Gwynith Paltrow in Sliding doors, you can end up in a different universe than if you hadn’t done certain things.

So this means you can control what universe you experience?

I think so. Here’s where it gets weird. If you’re in charge of your universe, does that make You…. God?

What’s God? The thing that made the universe and controls it? Isn’t that what we were just talking about?

So you’re the God of your universe? You are God? Oh my…god. I mean oh Boy.

Let’s take a step back to Everyone.

If You control what universe you experience, then so does everyone else. Everyone is the god of their own universe?

This takes me back to Quantum. When quantum considers that there can be multiple versions of the universe, this is sometimes referred to as the Multiverse.

I believe the multiverse does exist, and we’ve just unpacked how. If everyone literally lives in their own Universe, then there are multiple universes. There must be billions of universes just here on earth. Each one of our little brains is basically a little universe. Wait, just our brains? What about other creatures? They live in their own universe too. My cat’s universe is limited to my one-room apartment. When I brough them to a friend’s place during some construction, they were dumped into a completely different universe, and their minds were blown (they hid the whole time).

Let me introduce one more item, the real world. While we all may live in our own universe, shaped by our actions and our education and the news we choose to consume, one person may see something completely differently than the next. I believe this is why we’re so divided today in the United States. Humans have always lived in little social bubbles, but in the past we shared just a few common sources of news, and we all heard more of the full story from our leaders. Today we all get just the sound bites that our bubble chooses to show us which confirm our beliefs about the univrse and work great in our heads.

But in the real world, there are other people with their own universe and they see the same exact thing compeltly differently then you. That’s why were endlessly argue about everything because no one can see the other perspective. Some can but it takes a great deal of work and patience which we’ve all lost as technology has eaten away at our attention spans (aside: I bet it was really exciting to watch fantasia when it came out in 1940, but try watching it today without looking at your phone for the entire two hours.).

So while we all live in our own little universes, there actually is one real world. There is one reality. We just all see it differently. There is a timeline we call ā€œthe pastā€ which are the things that have already happened. It’s very helpful to understand what has happened to get us to this point so that we can be smart about what to do next. That’s how species survive, by learning and adapting and evolving to the current contidions taking wisdom from the past.

When can’t agree on what is real and what really happened, we lost that ability. That’s where we are right now. An we can’t understand why the ā€œother sideā€ is so dumb. We can’t see what they think and they can’t see what we think. We’ve lost our common thread thanks to the technologies we have built. As a result, we’re losing our care and values and patience and the world feels like it’s coming unraveled.

The good news is that we can still choose our universe. If we all work a little harder to see the other side and talk calmly about what they think and listen to their responses and not jump on them for their perspecitive, and they agree to do the same and listen to us calmly and let us explain our reasoning, one subject at a time without jumping to some other topic to make your zinger of a point (ā€œbut what about her emails??ā€) we can start to stitch our universes back together. In a perfect world our 8 billion universes are well aligned and we all realize we are all on this one tiny planet hurtling trough the ā€œuniverseā€ all alone in the middle of no where, getting farther and farther away from everytigng else as time passes. We don’t need anyone to come save us and I don’t think we should expect it either, though I wouldn’t be surprise if there is more out there we can’t bank on it. We have this beautiful miracle of a planet we call home. Why would we leave this place to go try to terraform some other planet. If we are able to terraform another planet into an earth-like place, then we can probably fix whatever problems we’ve caused here at home. Once we realize how precious Earth is or the fact that the evolution of life from the original primordial soup in the oceans to dinosaurs to mammals including us, we should consider ourselves LUCKY! We are living and we aer the god of our own universe. Let’s use our collective godly power to make it work for everyone. There is enough to go around, and we have smart scientists finding all kinds of new technology that can help us take ever better advantage of the limited resources at our disposal without having to exclude some humans or animals or kill all the trees.

Let’s put our minds and our hopes and our dreams to work at envisioning what that can look like. Then we can focus our collective energy on making it happen instead of fighting about who to exclude or clamboring to the top of the ladder to make more money than others so we can live more richly at others expense.

This veered far from my original intention to unpack the magic of You, but I hope you can see that You truly is Magic. It means you and it means me and it means everyone. It seems to mean all life on earth if you look at it broadly. I’m going to through the plants in there too because science seems to indicate they have magical powers to heal and help each other (e.g. rainforests are all connected underground—one organism, families of trees have been known to share water and help trees that are sick, mushroom roots called mycelium seem to connect and potentially transmit information between other plantlife in an almost electrical brainwave kind of way like our own neural networks).

If You means you and me and everyone and all life on earth, is it really Earth that is God? Mother Earth.

The Earth is our mother. We evolved from that primordial soup. Did god stir up that soup, something else out there that our religions have described as god? Or is it just earth? I think You is Everyone, You is Earth (you are part of this living breathing organism — oh yeah trees breathe the opposite of us).

I believe You is God for the quantum reasons above, and as broken down, You also means Everyone, so therefore Everyone is God. Everyone is Earth and life and one organism and we are in charge of our destiny.

You Are Magic. Use your powers to make your universe a better place and maybe if we all do that, the real world will be a better place too.

Thank You šŸ™šŸ»šŸ’–

Next stop: String Theory šŸ˜„

I learned all of this about You on February 2nd, 2025 (or maybe the third, I’ll have to check notes). This happens to be my mom’s birthday and Groundhog Day. The movie Groundhog Day is all about You being in charge of your own universe. Bill Murray’s character, Phil (same name as the groundhog), lives the same day over and over and over until he gets it right and finds true love. In one of the final longer days with his love interest he explains to her that his is a god of some kind. It’s true, he’s god of his universe, just as we have learned we are all gods of our own universe. When I learned this on February 2nd, I remember hearing the voice of god. I could no understand why this was happening, and my biggest question was Why Me, and it still is in many ways although I do feel I have just figured it all out by paying attention and being myself, but when I look back at my life sometimes it does all feel like destiny. How can that be if we are the gods of our own universe and have free will and can change our universe. I don’t believe the outcome is pre-ordained like we think about destiny. I do believe in free wil because there’s the version of Alex that gets up and runs every day and there’s the version that doesn’t. I can envision the future for the one that does and the one that doesn’t, and I can feel myself deciding to get up and run, or deciding to be lazy some days and not do it. I don’t believe that those individual decisions are pre-ordained. That would be boring and if everyone believed the outcome was going to be teh same no matter what, no one woudl do anything and we’d end up at the worst case scenario (where we’re headed) instead of the best case scenario. I don’t think the best case scenario is pre-written but I’m actually not sure if our ideas that we come up with are actually brand new ideas our brains are creating, or potentially memories we can access in our brains that are passed down from our ancestors or aliens or something. I’m starting to go astray here but I have explored all of these ideas and have more thoughts obviously. The thing I wanted to get across though was that I received tis message in February, but it was incomplete. I received several messages. They were, ā€œFollow your heartā€, ā€œTrust your gutā€, and ā€œYou already have the key.ā€ I believe that last one is for me and is related to what I have been building since 2019 and have realized I have been thinking about and building my whole life even back to creating a maze in Hypercard on a Mac in Middle School. All of my experiences from Myst to Consulting to Clear Channel have given me what I needed to complete whatever I’ve been dreaming of. I made the decision to take a leap of faith and pursue that in 2020 when I left Clear Channel (before the pandemic had kicked in). In additino to these messages, I received some message that basically told me I was God. That’s where the why me came in and I knew I wasn’t god because I didn’t create all of this. It wasn’t until my friendship with Rachel Mower led me to a lot more spiritual content that I started to really understand and marry what I was learning from that content to what my own brain had learned. When she first shared sometihng with me about Quantum, the Two Slits experiment, I had trouble grokking it at first, but thanks to several movies, culminating with the Life of A… that I developed my own understanding and theories of Quantum that I’ve shared here. That was the necessary part for me to understand the message that I am god. We are all god. I have also studied religion this year as a result of all of this. I have unpacked Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism in the past 6 months, and looked at it all through a lense of the actual history of the people and the timing and the overlap of the stories (like how the Old Testament is the Torah), and I’ve learned about Moses kind of setting up the rules for everyone, and then Jesus coming along later. Jesus was crucified because he was celebrated as King of Kings. I think Jesus may have received a similar message to my message that Iw as god, but he didn’t figure out the next part and it got him killed because he was seen as a threat. I do’nt want that and my message is that we are all god. I may just be the one that figured it out. I’m starting a tech platform, and I believe it’s going to be a big deal. But I don’t want to be famous and I don’t want to be a billionaire, so I’ve designed the platform to share the wealth and make sure I’m not setup to be in charge of everything. I was already doing that if you review my revenue plans from years ago. I’m scared to talk about this stuff prematurely, but glad I have gotten to this point October 8, 2025 (1:42 am—started writing this whole thing just after midnight). I’m even cautious about where i write things these days because I worry where it goes when AI reads it. Like is Squarespace AI reading this right now?? It’s little bubbles are moving… anyway, I’m not paranoid I am being smart and cautious. I’m not going to just publish this article and see what happens. I’m going to continue with my plan and share bits and pieces of it to help tee it all up. The Movies that Made Me app will be a good way to dig into these topics through the lense of various movies.
